Handmade Books

All books have hand-carved leather covers, with Chinese silk linings. The pages are archival paper, and hand bound using a classic Coptic technique by Lisa Pedolsky. There are a variety of books in stock – call for details.

All leather covers are attached to interior book boards covered in Japanese book cloth, contributing to a book’s beauty and durability.

Heavyweight, acid free paper is appropriate for writing and mounting and will preserve treasured photographs and documents.

Linen thread is used in the hand binding process, providing for a stable and functional product.

Coptic binding, an ancient form of book binding, is produced by a multiple needle process. Threads are sewn through each section of paper, creating rows of exposed chain stitches that are both decorative and very strong. This method also allows a book to lie flat when open.
